Children from closed and discriminatory Joseon society multicultural families,
A message of diversity and coexistence in a fairy tale drawn with warm eyes!
Did multicultural children with green eyes live during the Joseon Dynasty? "Children of Green Snow" is a story that was created in 1627 with the motif of "Jan Beltebray," the first European to settle in Joseon. In addition to Yanghee, the daughter of Jan Beltebray, another multicultural girl named Endangi, who was conceived in that the roots of Baekjeong during the Joseon Dynasty were descended from northern nomadic peoples, appeared. The two girls from a closed and discriminatory Joseon society multicultural family are discriminated against and misunderstood as "green-eyed goblins," but after confirming each other's existence, they become stronger and sparkle in their own appearance.
Since the Joseon Dynasty, we have already been living in a multicultural society. But how well do we accept myself and others and treat them without misunderstanding, discrimination or prejudice? Of course, but never thought about it, Children in Green Snow is a story that is even more special.
The flexibility of children to embrace diversity,
Fairy Tales Dreaming of a World Respecting the Heart of an Open Child
Although the number of students from multicultural families is at an all-time high every year, the case of multicultural discrimination is still one of the constant news. In "Children of Green Eyes", Jang Dol-gi, who ignores and discriminates against Choi Jong-dan's father by calling him a "northern goblin," and Yeom's grandmother also appears. However, children of their age don't discriminate against "different" ends and ends in a tournament, and they compete fairly with each other's abilities and sometimes admit defeat. In fact, according to the 'National Multicultural Acceptance Survey' conducted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in 2021, the acceptance score of adolescents has increased for five years, but it has fallen for adults. Isn't a flexible mind that embraces diversity what adults should learn from children?
Through "Children of Green Snow," writer Ji Hye-jin conveys the message that there is something special because they are different, and that there is a part that can be filled because they are different. As the artist said in his creative note, I hope that "Children in Green Eyes" will be a small step toward becoming "a world that does not hurt the hearts of children for such a natural reason."

What Ji-jin (Jieun) said:
(…) I've wanted to write a story that was right, of course, for a long time. Also, I wanted to write a story that felt special because it was such a fitting story. That's how Dan-dan and Yang-hee appeared in front of me.
Regardless of misunderstanding, prejudice, or discrimination, I was happy to meet 'children' who were going bravely throughout my writing. Thank you for meeting a "special child" who shines with their own colors. I hope that that heart is now connected to children in our neighborhood, cheering for each other. In addition, I hope it will be a world that does not hurt the hearts of such a natural child.[Creative note]
